About Our Program
Upward Bound is a grant-funded federal program which provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program includes tutoring, workshops and cultural opportunities throughout the academic year and a six week summer residential program on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. Students complete step-by-step college preparation, explore career options and receive training to help prepare them to successfully transition to college and persist in attaining a college degree.
Upward Bound serves qualified high school students from income-eligible families, potential first-generation college students, and students who demonstrate academic need.
In order to participate in the IWU Upward Bound Program, an individual must be in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade. Students must also meet one or both of the following requirements:
Be a potential first-generation college student
Be from a family that meets the income guidelines set by the federal government
Academic Risk (GPA below 2.5)
Upward Bound at Indiana Wesleyan University strives to foster an atmosphere for learning that opens windows of opportunity in education via self-empowerment.
